Pork chops, potatoes and parsley bread... Cass Lake, MN

Cass Lake, MN

When we looked out the window this morning we couldn't see the other side of the lake...a fog had settled in, and it was a bit dreary again. We got ready for church (Seth and I had another yoga session to start our day) and headed out. Since Roy & Luke hadn't been able to get out fishing last night, they decided they'd go out for a bit this morning before church. Unfortunately, their boat broke down across the lake and Paul had to go rescue them. They were then going to take Paul's car and meet the rest of the family at church, but realized Melissa had taken the car keys. So Deb ran back to the resort and picked them up, and eventually all arrived at church...better late than never! Several of us enjoyed a cup of Highlander Grogg coffee, and the service and message were a great start to our day.

By the time church was out, the sun was too! After prepping some food, we all sat down to the annual pot luck. This year we had 18 people for the picnic...Mom K, Dad K, Tom, Linda, Jared, Seth, Maddie, Leah, Chloe, Roy, Deb, Luke, Kara, Erin, Leah, Paul, Melissa, & Tommy! We enjoyed our traditional favorites: pork chops on the grill, potato casserole, and Aunt Sone's parsley bread, which Paul was able to recreate. We did miss having Aunt Sone around...she will be heading to Battle Lake's Sand Bay Resort this year with Phil & Wenda and family.

After lunch we sat and visited while the kids went skiing, wake boarding, and tubing. Then our family headed out fishing with Grandpa & Grandma. They took Seth & Maddie in their boat and we had Jared, Leah & Chloe in ours. We went to Pike Bay and fared pretty well. We ended up with 14 fish...9 big rock bass and 5 perch, while the other boat caught about 10 (mostly perch). After cleaning the fish, Tom joined the kids and I for s'mores around the campfire. Seth and Maddie packed up their things, as they will be heading home early tomorrow morning. We are sad to see them go.
