It just had to be a good day... Cass Lake, MN

I knew it was going to be a good day. As soon as I dropped my line down in Pike Bay, I felt a bite, and pulled in a nice perch. Dropped my line in again...another perch. Yep...it was one of those kind of days. We (Tom, Linda, Seth & Leah) ended up with 30 fish for the morning, 23 perch and 7 rock bass. It was so sunny and calm, and we saw a bald eagle soaring overhead several times. And I was so excited when I looked up from baiting my hook and saw a loon--it was less than 20 feet from the boat! And it sang its little loon song. Yep...it was one of those kind of days.

The afternoon was relaxing for most of us. Chloe & Maddie were enjoying making bracelets on Chloe's rainbow loom. Several of us were reading. Poor Tom had to filet 30 fish, so that took up a good chunk of his afternoon. But he was still able to get some reading in before he, Jared and I went for a little kayak ride. We then came in and got started on supper. I taught Seth how to fry fish as he is hoping to make his own next year in his apartment.

After supper, Tom & Seth went for a bike ride, Linda & Maddie took a little walk, and the girls made some friends (Andrea, who Chloe had met 2 years ago, and her brother Tomm). We have also been joined by my cousin Paul, his fiance Melissa and her son, Tommy (suddenly there are lots of Toms around here!). They arrived late last night, and will be our neighbors for the remainder of these 2 weeks. Hopefully we won't get too noisy for them!

This evening Jared started a nice little fire and we chatted for awhile until the bugs came out. Speaking of bugs, Jared is going to try to sleep outside in his hammock tonight, that is, if the bugs don't eat him alive first.
