To rain or not to rain? That is the question.

We looked at the forecast before we went to bed and saw there was an 80% chance of rain for the next day. We assumed it would not be good fishing weather and might end up being a shopping day in Walker.

I woke up at 6:00 and checked my weather app again. Rain not here yet, but thunderstorms would arrive at 7:00. Rolling over, I settled in for more sleep.

At 7:30, I awoke, fully expecting to hear the pitter-patter of raindrops outside the window. There were birds chirping instead. The weather app said the rain was still coming.

This went on all morning long. We got up around 8:00, fully expecting rain. Chloe, my “food art” daughter, made me a lovely breakfast of avocado and egg toast, bacon and melon. (For more food art, check out her fun Instagram page: c.roseeats )

After breakfast, while waiting for the rain to arrive, I walked over to Sah-kah-tay, the resort next door to say “hello” to Sue from Mom and Dad. The ice cream puzzle Dad gave her last year was framed and hanging on her ice cream case…so sweet!

Finally, around 11:00, after wasting our entire morning debating fishing vs. shopping, we decided that weather apps could not be trusted in Minnesota, and when the sky is clear and the water mostly calm, lake time should not be wasted.

Tom and I geared up for fishing, while the girls readied themselves for boating with their cousins. Leah got up kneeboarding for a little bit. William dropped a ski and slalomed for the first time. Elise skied and tried to drop one. Nicole and Zach almost got up on skis. Chloe rode in the boat soaking up the sun…literally. She forgot to put sunblock on her face and now looks permanently embarrassed (poor thing!).

While they were boating and skiing, we managed to catch five nice-sized perch to add to our stash. The weather was picture-perfect; blue sky with fluffy white clouds and a light breeze to keep us cool in the heat. More bird sightings today too. This time, a loon with her baby and a blue heron. Plus one lonely turtle.

We finished off the evening with supper at Zorbaz, our annual tradition. Even though it was hot, we opted to sit out on the patio for better Coronavirus prevention. The pizza was good, as usual, but the company, even better!

Back at the resort, we found the other cousins (Deb and Roy, Paul and Melissa, and families) enjoying a fish fry after a couple of very successful nights of walleye fishing. We’re hoping to catch enough tomorrow to have our fish fry soon! Tomorrow’s forecast is “Sunny” all day.

It will probably rain.
