A Final Sunset

We started our Sunday morning as we have for the last three and a half months, with online worship. Once again, the internet was adequate and we were able to watch the live stream as our church held its first outdoor in-person gathering since COVID restrictions began.

We made plans with the rest of the gang to have an evening picnic so we would have plenty of time to prepare and also enjoy some afternoon activities. For us, the time was spent relaxing, playing card games (Dutch Blitz, Five Crowns, Canasta), and visiting.

The picnic was held and enjoyed by all. Attending this week were: Deb and Roy and family (4 kids); Paul and Melissa and family (3 kids); Beth and her 2 girls; and Tom and myself, Leah and Chloe. Since we had a bag of frozen chicken in the freezer, we opted to have BBQ chicken on the grill. (Last Sunday Tom and I had steak, so we’ve really bucked tradition with no pork chops this year! Scandalous, I know!)

After dinner, we hopped in the boat with Leah and Nicole and headed out for a little evening fishing. We didn’t catch much (1 rock bass, 4 perch) near the Potato Islands, but we were able to take in a most amazing sunset.

I had no idea my life and the lives of my entire family would be forever changed the next day. In retrospect, I’m pretty sure God knew I needed a sign that there is beauty and goodness at the end of the day; at the end of a life well-lived.
