High water heaven... Cass Lake, MN

Cass Lake, MN

Monday is the day we usually start fishing, and although the wind was blowing at about 20 mph, the sun was shining so we decided we had to at least try our luck. Anyway, long story short, we had no luck. It's hard to find fish when all your usual spots are rough and full of white caps. In our two hours out, we caught one fish (total!) which wasn't even a keeper. Better luck next time!

Tom took a bike ride in the afternoon, while I read my book and took a little kayak ride. The kids have been enjoying lazy days playing with Legos (yes, I said playing with Legos!), hanging with friends, and reading. Leah went tubing for awhile with her friends' (Tomm & Andrea's) family.

One thing we'll remember about this year is how high the water is in the lake. I took some pictures to attempt to show the difference in water levels from previous years. The lake is up nearly two feet due to all the rain Minnesota has been getting.

Tonight's dinner was my special "Minnesota Santa Fe Chicken." Basically, I've figured out how to improvise my recipes from home for vacation in a way that makes them easier and uses fewer ingredients. The chicken turned out great, and everyone seemed to enjoy it! After dinner the kids headed to Bemidji with their friends to catch a movie, so we're enjoying a quiet evening together in the cabin.
