A Long Way from "Real Life"

A Long Way from "Real Life" Cass Lake, MN

Cass Lake, MN

Although it appeared rough and windy when we looked out the window this morning, we decided we had to get out fishing, since there are only two days left. We talked the girls into going along, and since Chloe had been to Pike Bay twice already, she requested trying a different spot. So we started along Star Island...no luck. Moved to the opposite shore (by Marclay Point), and had very little luck (caught one perch). So we moved once more, to Dick's Bay, where we were at least able to bring in 3 more perch. We also caught 2 bluegill, and even though they weren't keepers, it was fun to FINALLY catch something besides perch and rock bass. We had a rough, somewhat wet ride home, but still had a great time laughing and screaming with each wave we crashed into.

This afternoon we spent some time reading about spinal fusion in preparation for Leah's big surgery next Monday. It's starting to become more real to us, and we're all a bit nervous about what is to come. One thing we decided to do, which Leah had been wanting to do anyway, was get Leah's hair cut. Since she will have a hard time washing her hair for awhile, we thought a shorter cut would be easier. I drove her into Bemidji to "Naturally Hair" and she had at least 6 inches cut off. It turned out really cute, and she is really enjoying the feel of her new, shorter hair. While we were getting her hair cut, Tom rode his bike 18 miles around Lake Bemidji. Jared and Chloe hung out around the resort, playing volleyball, riding in boats, etc., with the other kids at the resort.

When we got back to the resort we sat down for a nice dinner, and then got ready to host "coffee time" at our cabin. We had the whole gang over for ice cream sundaes, and again enjoyed chatting and sharing our stories. Everyone is gone now, and the cabin is quiet and clean. One more day in our little Minnesota paradise. "Real life" seems very far away right now.
