Happy 4th of July! Cass Lake, MN

Cass Lake, MN

It' Monday. It's Independence Day. It's a beautiful sunny day.

Tom, Seth & I headed out for the Potato Islands for our first attempt at fishing. It took us awhile to figure out the enhanced fishing boat, with it's front-mounted trolling motor. Seth soon learned how to control that motor (he said it was just like controlling a video game), and Tom tried to relax in the back of boat, feeling a bit out-of-control. Fishing was not great, but we managed to bring home 5 rock bass for our first morning out.

The resort owners had several special activities planned for the 4th of July. Chloe and her friend Andrea won the Scavenger hunt. Later, several of the kids made tie-dyed t-shirts on the lawn. The bright colors looked really fun and festive as they hung on the line to dry. After reading and swimming we all took a break on the deck of the lodge for root-beer floats. The weather was picture-perfect as the warm gentle breeze blew off the lake while we sat sipping our floats.

That evening, we grilled some brats and hot dogs for supper. We were then planning to go to Walker to watch some fireworks, but about an hour before dark a pretty big storm blew over, and it rained heavily. Since we weren't sure if the fireworks were still on, and we were all comfortably relaxing in our cabin, we decided to just stay home and watched "Despicable Me" instead.
