Recipe for a Perfect Ending

Day 9. Oak Ridge, NC.

We spent our morning back in the historic district of Savannah, mostly focusing on River Street and Broughton Street (the shops were all open, much to Chloe's delight). We spent some time (and money) at the Savannah Bee Company, stocking up on honey for ourselves and buying a few gifts as well. We found a few other souvenirs and gifts, and enjoyed a beautiful sunshiny, warm morning. Tom was able to take a short bike ride around town, weaving in and out of the many "squares."

We grabbed lunch at various places on Broughton Street. Chloe found a little cafe, Tom and Jared picked up sandwiches at Leopold's, and I found the perfect lunch...a shrimp cone (fried shrimp and cole slaw in a waffle cone!) at the Savannah Seafood Shack. I had to have just one last meal of shrimp before leaving the coast.

We left Savannah close to 2:00, and drove through fairly heavy northbound traffic (though not nearly as heavy as the southbound lanes) toward our dear friends Brian and Jill's house in Oak Ridge, North Carolina. We arrived shortly before 8:00 p.m. and enjoyed a meal like only Brian can cook: fall-off-the-bone BBQ ribs, cole slaw, green beans, grilled corn and strawberry/chocolate pie. Adding a glass of wine, some home-made honey mead, and a long, relaxed visit with faraway friends made it the recipe for a perfect ending to our Spring Break getaway!
