In Search of Warmer Weather

Day 2; Flat Rock, NC.

After a wonderful celebration of Steve's life and time spent with lots of family, we changed clothes, repacked the car, and took off. It was about 2:15 p.m. (CT). The drive was easy and uneventful...no traffic jams, minimal construction, and great weather! We opted to go via Knoxville (TN), Asheville (NC), and Columbia (SC) and avoid Atlanta, as a major bridge on I-85 had collapsed due to a huge fire under the bridge.

Tom and I are joined on this trip by Chloe, who is enjoying her last spring break of her high school career, and Jared, who is living a pretty flexible life right now as he's working remotely from a van all over the country. Since he recently enjoyed some time in South Carolina and Georgia, he quickly accepted when we invited him to join us.

We stopped at a Qdoba for a quick, but filling supper, made a couple of gas stops, and made it to Flat Rock, NC (a little south of Asheville), by around 1:00 a.m. Unfortunately, it was dark during some of what we suspected was the prettiest part of the drive. We checked into the Quality Inn and the cute little old man at the desk rattled off almost every breakfast item we would have available in the morning. Time to catch a few winks!
