Sprinkles, Downpours, Hailstones, and Rainbows

I’ve skipped a couple of days of blog posts, as life has gotten pretty crazy for us over the past two days here in Minnesota. It’s been crazy in a good way though, and eventually I will share the story and some exciting news.

For now, I’ll just fill you in on some of the more mundane, but always marvelous, happenings at the lake. After a second rainy Monday, we were happy to see cloudy, but dry weather in the forecast for Tuesday. Seth and Maddie were itching to get fishing, so we took them out to Pike Bay while Chloe and Jared stayed behind to babysit Ollie (who has become fast friends with Elle and Ben).

As has been the pattern this year, fishing was slow. Tom pulled in a really nice bluegill, and we had three more nice perch to add to our freezer stash at home as well, but that was the extent of our catch today.

In the afternoon, we relaxed around the cabin. Several times we stepped outside to sit in the sun, only to discover a few sprinkles of rain that sent us back inside. Tom took our car to the Ford service center in Bemidji to get our spark plugs replaced (related to the check engine light that came on last Sunday). His plan was to bike home, which he did. What he did not plan on was the thunderstorm, complete with pouring rain and hail, that he rode through on his way home. After 32 miles, many of which were wet, he made it safely home.

It was Maddie and Seth’s turn to make dinner, and we all thought the chicken enchilada casserole was delish! Toward the end of our meal, a strong thunderstorm blew through Birch Villa. It moved across the lake and in true Cass fashion, treated us to a rainbow when it was over. Along with many of our resort neighbors, we sloshed through the soggy grass and puddles to snap some pics of God’s beautiful creativity.

Since it was still wet outside, we spent the evening inside. We watched the first two episodes of “Only Murders in the Building” (season 2), and then the original “Top Gun” movie, as several of us would like to see “Top Gun Maverick” before it’s no longer in theaters.

Jared will be leaving early in the morning, so we all gave him our farewell hugs and safe-travel wishes–more like see-you-laters, since we’ll get to see him again soon for my niece’s wedding!
