Family, Fishing and Fun on the Fourth! Cass Lake, MN

Cass Lake, MN

Spending the holiday at the lake makes this Independence Day a little different than spending it at home. At home we usually hang out, maybe go swimming, relax, have a barbecue, and then go see some fireworks. Here at the lake, we go fishing, hang out, go swimming, relax, have a barbecue and then maybe some fireworks. (I did say it was a LITTLE different!) Tom and I went out this morning, as all of the kids wanted to sleep in and have the morning off (you know, they've been working so hard!). We caught 8 perch off of Star Island in what we have now labeled "Star Bush" and "The Cove" on our GPS. I wouldn't exactly call them "hot spots" yet, but with the wind we had today, and only two lines in the water, we didn't do too bad. The ride home was very choppy and a little wet. If you want to know how we spent our afternoon, just read the four previous days' entries. I think we've all gotten into the vacation groove very nicely. As we laze around the resort this year, we've noticed the dragonflies are much bigger and there are more of them than in years' past. Must be the year of the Dragonfly. We realized we needed an item or two before grilling out, and before we knew it our grocery list had grown to about 25 items. We decided it was worth driving to Bemidji where groceries are a bit cheaper, so Tom made the grocery run. All I can say is, I'm glad we don't have to feed 7 people, including 2 teens and 3 young adults, year round! It's crazy how fast we're going through the food! We enjoyed brats & hot dogs on the grill for dinner, and watched all kinds of fireworks from about 3 different resorts around the lake, as well as several small but good ones right at Birch Villa. Happy Independence Day!
