Mountains, mountains and more mountains!

Jasper, Canada

We spent Sunday morning and early afternoon in Calgary, going to church and then to a party/reception for the newlyweds. After church, we first headed to Gord & Annie's home to see their place and admire their new deck/outdoor kitchen. Annie made us all homemade sodas with their soda machine.

After a nice little visit, we headed to the party at Brett's parents' home (Brett's dad is in construction, so they had a beautiful place!). There was a terrific spread of food, and we enjoyed watching the new couple open their gifts. It was a cool but sunny day, so we all enjoyed sitting outside on the deck and soaking up the Canadian sunshine.

After the party, we said our good-byes to the gang, and set out on our own. We headed up Hwy 1 (the TransCanada) and then 93 (Icefields Parkway) to Jasper National Park. Our plan was to spend two days around Jasper, one day traveling between Jasper and Banff, and 2 days around Banff. Lodging is very expensive through the whole area, so we opted for Bed & Breakfasts, which were a lot cheaper. There were pros and cons to the B&B, but overall we found them to be quite enjoyable...especially getting to know folks from all over the world around the breakfast table.

On our way up to Jasper we enjoyed endless views of mountain scenery as the sun set and the moon rose. We arrived in Jasper fairly late in the evening, but found our accommodations clean and comfortable. We would be staying at the Seldom Inn, in Jasper for the next three nights. After arriving, we set out to find a quick bite to eat.
