One Last Lovely Day at the Lake

Due to Dad’s death and all of the changes in our plans, we decided to leave a day early. So Thursday was our last day at the lake. We had been wanting to get in one more fishing trip, in Dad’s honor, before the trip was over, so Leah, Beth, Tom and I set out for Pike Bay in the morning.

Dad must have been looking down on us, as we had our biggest catch yet–24! (22 perch and 2 rock bass.) We were back in by 1:00 so we could say good-bye to Chloe, who was starting her road trip early and going to her friend Kate’s house in Hibbing (MN). Chloe, who had planned a weeklong road trip to visit many of her “up north” friends, had to cancel a couple of visits and reschedule others due to the funeral. But she would still be able to spend time with Kate and Mary, so it was all good.

We spent the afternoon packing up and cleaning, while Beth and her girls went back to Bemidji to get Elise’s prom dress after the alterations.

Leah and I took an early evening kayak ride. The lake was peaceful and the breeze refreshing. It was nice to have some one-on-one time with Leah. She also had plans to travel during the following week to visit her boyfriend, Elijah, in Texas. We were able to rebook her flights and bumped her trip back by a couple of days so she could attend Grandpa’s funeral, but still have the trip she’d been looking forward to all summer. So again, it was all good.

Tom, Leah, and I ordered a pizza from the lodge and while it was baking, we settled up with Tony (the “ouch” part of the vacation!). Beth and her girls liked Bar 209 so well the night before that they decided to eat there again!

Even though my mind was still on Dad and Mom and the funeral, it was nice to enjoy one last lovely day at the lake.
